Two women were killed after a wall of a chemical manufacturing plant in Cuddalore SIPCOT collapsed on Saturday evening. Police identified the deceased as A. Elamathi, 39, and D. Indra, 35, of Boothankatti near Alapakkam in the district.
According to police, the incident occurred at around 5.30 p.m. at Indian Phosphate Limited, which manufactures sulphonic acid. The women were killed after a recently constructed wall in the manufacturing plant collapsed and fell on them. The two were trapped under the debris and died on the spot.
On information, the Cuddalore Old Town police retrieved the bodies and sent them to the Cuddalore Government General Hospital. A case has been registered.
Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Saturday condoled the death of two women workers.
In a statement, Mr. Stalin also announced a solatium of ₹4 lakh each from the Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund to the families of the deceased.
