Vizianagaram Collector B. R. Ambedkar on Tuesday directed agriculture and horticulture officials to use drones for the application of nano fertilizers, which are available at subsidised rates.
He formally released a nano fertilizer poster designed by the agriculture department during a meeting held at the Collector’s office in Vizianagaram.
Speaking on the occasion, he asked the officials to make optimal use of all the 17 kisan drones available for the benefit of the farm sector in the district.
He said: “The distribution of nano fertilizers with the support of drones will improve soil health and ensure more yield. The recent Improvement in rainfall across all the mandals is a good sign for the agriculture sector in the district. While over 10 mandals witnessed deficit rainfall until the second week of July. The recent spell of incessant rains in the last few days will benefit crops across all the mandals.”
The paddy crop cultivation area is projected to reach around 4 lakh acres. Maize, sugarcane and other crops are also being given top priority by farmers in the mandals of Bobbili, Pusapatirega and others. Officials are hopeful that agriculture activity will pick up pace from the fourth week of July with water available in the Madduvalasa, Thatipudi and other reservoirs.
