The Coimbatore Corporation on Friday, July 25, 2025, held an indirect election to fill a vacancy in its 15-member Taxation and Finance Committee, following the death of councillor M. Krishnamoorthy of the Indian National Congress (INC).
Krishnamoorthy, who represented Ward 56 and was a member of the committee, died on November 27, 2024, after an accidental fall on the banks of Noyyal river at Pattanam near Sulur.
The election was held at Victoria Town Hall on the Corporation’s main office premises. Ward 5 councillor Naveenkumar G. (INC) was declared elected unopposed. The process was presided over by Corporation Commissioner and Returning Officer M. Sivaguru Prabakaran, in the presence of Mayor K. Ranganayaki and Deputy Mayor R. Vetriselvan. Several councillors and Corporation officials were also present.
