The Ottankadu Dr. A.P.J.Abdul Kalam Village Development Trust has donated a bus for the use of pupil of Government Adi Dravidar Welfare High School at Naduvikuruchi near Peravurani.
Inquiries reveal that little over 80 children from Naduvikuruchi and surrounding hamlets pursue their education at this school and were finding it difficult to reach their institution on time and get back to their homes safely.
In order to mitigate their transport problems, the trust donated a bus, priced at $22 lakh, for the use of students. The vehicle would be operated in two shifts both in the morning and evening on the school days.
While the trust has assured that it would bear the fuel expenditure, the schoolteachers have come forward to engage a driver, sources said.
Collector B. Priyanka Pankajam flagged off the bus recently. Peravurani MLA N. Ashokkumar and District Adi Dravidar and Scheduled Tribe Welfare Officer Ravichandran were present.
