Former gram panchayat member hacked to death on Kanakapura road in Bengaluru South district

A 45-year-old former gram panchayat member was allegedly hacked to death by a gang of armed men over a property dispute on Kanakapura road under Sathanur police station limits on Saturday night.

The incident occurred when the deceased, Nanjesh, was having dinner at a roadside eatery along with his friends. The assailants barged into the hotel and attacked Nanjesh before fleeing from the scene, while his friends and other customers ran helter-skelter to save themselves.

According to the police, Nanjesh was a resident of Honnagani Doddi village and former member of the Achalu Gram Panchayat in Kanakapura taluk.

A senior police officer said that at around 8.30 p.m. on Saturday, Nanjesh was consuming alcohol with friends near a roadside eatery on Kanakapura Road, when a group of four to five armed men barged in and attacked him with lethal weapons before fleeing from the spot. A few people rushed him to a nearby hospital,where he succumbed to his injuries later.

The Sathanur police have registered a case of murder, and two of the accused were detained on Sunday. Preliminary investigation revealed that Nanjesh had been involved in a quarrel over a property dispute just four days before the murder. The accused arrested are being questioned, and further investigations are underway to track down the ones who are on the run.
