Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao has accused the State government of ‘colluding’ with middlemen resulting in ‘black marketing of urea’ and challenged Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswar Rao for a debate on urea ‘shortage’.

Speaking to the media in Gadwal, as part of his tour to the district, on Sunday, Mr. Rao alleged that the Congress government was misleading farmers by making false accusations against the Central government.

He pointed out that Telangana is the only State in the country facing an urea ‘shortage’, despite the Central government supplying 12.2 lakh metric tonnes (MT) against a request for 9.5 lakh metric tonnes.

Mr. Rao asked farmers to question the Congress government about the fate of the excess 2.5 lakh MT of urea and the reasons for the shortage. “If the Agriculture Minister comes for a debate, we will come with details of urea supply by the Modi government,” he said.

The BJP leader alleged that the Revanth Reddy government is trying to cover up its failures and inefficiency by blaming the Centre for the shortage of urea ahead of the local body elections. He urged farmers to confront Congress leaders in the local body elections.

Addressing a party workers’ meeting, Mr. Rao said that people no longer believe the Congress party and are ready to teach it a lesson for coming to power with hollow promises. Mahabubnagar MP D.K. Aruna and local leaders were present during the meeting.
