The Chamarajpet police have arrested a habitual offender and three others for allegedly stabbing two people, including a head constable, when they tried to intervene and pacify a dispute between the accused and his former wife on Friday.

The injured have been identified as Santhosh, a head constable at the Chamarajapet police station, and Mohammed Shafiullah, a relative of the accused’s former wife .

According to the police, the accused, identified as Tabrez, recently got out of prison after serving time in a murder case registered with the Tilak Nagar police. After his release, he approached Muskan, his former wife and Shafiullah’s niece, who is now married to another man.

On July 25, Tabrez showed up at Muskan’s house, where Shafiullah was also present, and began to argue with Muskan’s husband. When Shafiullah tried to intervene, Tabrez allegedly attacked him.

Meanwhile, Santhosh, the policeman, was having dinner at a hotel nearby, when he overheard the commotion. He then arrived at the spot and tried to pacify an armed Tabrez, when the latter allegedly stabbed Santhosh on his wrist before fleeing from the scene.

Following this, the Hoysala police reached the spot and took the injured to a hospital. They are reportedly out of danger. Based on the complaint, the police tracked down Tabrez and arrested him along with two of his relatives, and held a minor on charges of abetment to the crime.
