The district police have arrested a man for impersonating himself as a High Court judge and cheating two persons to the tune of ₹25 lakh.

Police said Selvakumar, 63, a retired agriculture department officer of Paramakudi, along with his acquaintance Kaliraja, sought the assistance of Pandian through another friend to begin their mineral water business.

Pandian, who introduced himself as a Judge of Punjab High Court, assured them of all help and asked them to pay ₹5 lakh each to secure loan from bank. He got ₹15 lakh more by saying the loan would be approved only if they had a building of their own.

After the two men handed him the money and later cross-checked Pandian’s background with a few of their other friends, they realised that he was not a Judge and had deceived them.

They demanded their money back, but he refused to return it. Following this, they submitted a complaint to District Superintendent of Police G. Chandeesh.

Kenikarai police, who investigated the complaint, registered a case and arrested Pandian.
