Man out on bail for murdering father kills mother in Erode

A 43-year-old man, who was arrested on charges of murdering his father in 2022 and later released on bail, has now allegedly killed his mother over a property dispute.

On Sunday (July 27, 2025) evening, the Erode Taluk police received information that a woman Rukmani, 65, was found dead at her house in Veppampalayam. Upon inspection, the police found that her hand was broken and she had been hit with a wooden log and an iron rod at multiple places on her body.

Initial inquiries revealed that her son, Ravikumar, had committed the crime the previous night and was still inside the house. Her body was sent to the Government Erode Medical College and Hospital in Perundurai, while Ravikumar was taken into custody.

Further investigation revealed that 1.5 acres of land in Pichandampalayam was in the name of Ravikumar’s father, Palanisamy. Ravikumar, who is unmarried, had been pressuring his parents to transfer the property to his name. On May 2, 2022, following a dispute, he assaulted his father, leading to his death. He was arrested, lodged in prison, and later released on bail. After his release, he continued to live with his mother. When another dispute over the property arose, he committed the second murder, the police said.
