Assembly panel reviews progress in implementation of development projects

The Tamil Nadu Assembly’s Assurances Committee, led by MLA T. Velmurugan, visited on Tuesday various development projects under implementation in the district and reviewed the progress of these projects besides re-examining the implementation of the assurances made in the Assembly.

Addressing the review meeting held at the Collectorate after the field visits, Mr. Velmurugan said the wholehearted steps taken by the officials for translating the assurances made in the Assembly were paramount for the successful functioning of the official machinery. Hence, the meeting was being organised to review the implementation of the assurances made by the Chief Minister and the Ministers in the Assembly and its progress.

Of the 137 assurances pertaining to Tirunelveli district in the past, 43 had been implemented, and 86 others were pending at various stages. And, eight others were under consideration. During the last Assembly session, 51 assurances associated with Tirunelveli district were made in the Assembly and 13 had been implemented. The remaining 38 assurances would be taken-up for implementation shortly, as per the replies made by the officials during the review meeting, Mr. Velmurugan said.

During the field visit in the morning, the Committee members inspected the ongoing work on the making of 425 kg silver car of Swami Nellaiyappar Temple, construction of obstetrics and gynaecology department building and the non-communicable diseases section building at Melapalayam Government Hospital, first phase of Tirunelveli West Bypass Road being laid between Konganthanparai Junction and Tharuvai, DNA lab at Forensic Science Laborartory, construction of additional floor in the Food Analysis Laboratory and the medicines preparation centre and outpatients’ section at Government Siddha Medical College, Palayamkottai.

“We’ve instructed the officials’ concerned for completing the projects before the stipulated deadline,” Mr. Velmurugan said.

District Collector R. Sukumar, Principal Secretary K. Srinivasan, members R. Arul (Salem West), A.R.R. Srinivasan (Virudhunagar), K. Thalapathi (Madurai North), A. Nallathambi (Thirupaththur), S. Mangudi (Karaikudi), M.K. Mohan (Anna Nagar), S. Jayakumar (Perunthurai), M. Abdul Wahab (Palayamkottai) and R. Ruby R. Manoharan (Nanguneri) participated in the inspection and the review meeting.
