Health department officials on Monday (September 8, 2025) sealed a private clinic near Perumanallur, after determining that it was being operated without legal sanction.
Acting on information, officials carried out a surprise inspection and found that patients were treated by a person named Vikram, who had completed his medical degree programme in Georgia but had not registered with the Tamil Nadu Medical Council. He was assisted by Pushpa, a Diploma Nursing Assistant.
The inspection team had learnt that Vikram was prescribing medicines under the guidance of a person named Nimmi Thomas, from Kerala.
The officials subsequently confirmed that she was the one who was arrested in Tiruppur in March last year for treating patients without requisite qualifications.
The officials, upon further questioning, learnt that she had employed Vikram as a proxy to continue running the clinic illegally.
The Perumanallur police have registered a case and are on the lookout for Nimmi Thomas.
