An unidentified gang has hacked to death the father of a man arrested in the DMK functionary murder case near Devakottai.
According to police, Karuppaiah, 60, of Samiyarpatti with his wife Vimala was living in Vilangattur area of Thiruvegampattur, near Devakottai. On Saturday, a gang of three people hacked Karuppaiah to death while he was grazing goats in the area. Upon receiving information, police retrieved Karuppaiah’s body and sent it for post-mortem examination at the government hospital.
Karuppaiah was the father of one of the accused, Vikki alias Karunakaran, associated with the murder of Praveenkumar, 27, in Sivaganga, who was the district deputy organiser for the DMK sports wing.
On April 27, he was hacked to death in his garden by Vikki and his friends Prabakaran and Guru due to prior enmity.
The Sivaganga town police registered a case and arrested all three.
