Following the death of Shibu Soren, former Jharkhand Chief Minister and one of the founders of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, the Congress has postponed the protest organised by its Karnataka unit against ““votes theft”, as claimed by Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, from August 5 to August 8.
The Congress had announced the protest on August 5 at the Freedom Park in Bengaluru.
KPCC chief D.K. Shivakumar and AICC general Secretary incharge of Karnataka Randeep Singh Surjewala told reporters that the protest would be held on August 8 as AICC chief Mallikarjun Kharge and Mr. Gandhi have to attend the funeral programme of Shibu Soren on August 5 in Jharkhand.
Representation to EC officials
The Congress decided to stage protest on August 8 in Bengaluru and submit a representation to the Election Commission officials here.
As per the tentative plan, Mr. Gandhi and Mr. Kharge are expected to address party workers at Freedom Park, following which the former is likely to meet election officials and submit a memorandum.
Mr. Gandhi had said, “In Karnataka, we have found out “bhayankar chori” (massive theft). I will show it in black and white to you and the Election Commission. I will show in black and white how the “chori” is done and from where. We have it in black and white in Karnataka.” Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Mr. Shivakumar had also endorsed Mr Gandhi’s allegation.
