Members of the Visakha Autorickshaw Drivers Union, supported by the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), staged a protest on Tuesday, urging the State Government to clarify how it plans to support autorickshaw drivers following the free bus travel scheme for women, set to begin from August 15.

The protesters raised slogans demanding immediate release of ₹15,000 financial assistance under ‘Vahana Mitra’ to each autorickshaw driver. Additionally, they also urged the formation of a welfare board specifically for autorickshaw drivers and urged the government to provide diesel and petrol at subsidised rates.
