The 14th district conference of the All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) was held in Krishnagiri on Wednesday (August 6, 2025).
The Communist Party of India (Marxist) – affiliated women’s rights association has called upon the government to prevent crimes against women and children and provide protection to working women by giving teeth to the law that deals with prevention of sexual harassment of woman at workplace.
Among the resolutions passed by AIDWA included setting up of Internal Complaints Committees (ICCs) in all public places that employ women, to inquire into complaints of sexual harassment of women at workplace. The Association demanded ICCs to be set up in schools, and colleges and not just places of work.
With Krishnagiri reporting numerous child marriages, AIDWA demanded administrative intervention to crack down on forced and child marriages. They also demanded timely action against complaints of dowry harassment, and sexual and caste violence on women, in order to take pre-emptive action against hate killings in the name of ‘honour’, among others.
