Former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam, on Thursday (August 7, 2025), condemned the murder of a policeman while he was attempting to resolve a family dispute in Tiruppur district. He also charged that inefficient administration of the DMK government was the reason behind the incident. He sought for action against those involved in the murder and for steps so that such incidents don’t recur.

In a statement, Mr. Panneerselvam said: “It is the responsibility of the DMK government to maintain the law and order situation in the State and it is its duty to control the alcohol menace which is the primary reason for these incidents.” He further urged the Chief Minister to accord special focus on the law and order scenario in the State. Special Sub Inspector Shanmugavel attached to Gudimangalam police station was hacked to death while attempting to resolve a dispute between a father and his sons.
“During the past four years of the DMK government, murder in daylight, dacoity, circulation of illegal drugs, sexual assaults, among others have become daily affairs. It would not be an exaggeration to say that the illegal drugs are the sources of these incidents affecting the law and order situation,” Mr. Panneerselvam charged. He contended that Tamil Nadu, which was supposed to march in the path of development, was in turn going down the path of destruction.
“In all, there is no safety even for the police personnel. If rowdy elements dare to attack the policemen, it shows that the DMK government has been soft on them,” Mr. Panneerselvam charged.
