
Collector S. Saravanan distributes welfare assistance to a beneficiary on National Handlooms Day celebration in Dindigul on Thursday.
Dindigul Collector S. Saravanan on Wednesday inaugurated the 11th National Handloom Day celebrations and exhibition in Dindigul. He distributed welfare assistance to the beneficiaries to the tune of ₹5.92 lakh.
Inaugurating the special handloom exhibition, Mr. Saravanan spoke about the traditional handloom weaving and the products. National Handloom Day was observed to encourage the sale of handloom products. It was observed in commemoration of the Swadeshi movement, he said.
Silk saris, cotton saris, Sungudi saris, Kora cotton, dhotis, shawls and other handloom products were on display at the exhibition. A special medical and eye camp were conducted.
The Collector also inaugurated an organic farming awareness conference in Dindigul. He said that Dindigul was predominantly an agricultural district and importance was given to agriculture and agricultural activities.
He urged the farmers to get updated on land development and water management and also the latest technology with regard to agriculture and agricultural activities. He said that the organic farming practices had increased in the district.
