Independence of judiciary crucial to survival of democracy, says judge

Kerala High Court judge V.G. Arun said here on Saturday that the independence of the judiciary was essential to the survival of democracy.

Public trial of judges, including through social media, could undermine impartial adjudication, he was quoted as saying in a release here. He was inaugurating the Young Lawyers’ Convention organised by the All India Lawyers’ Union (AILU) Ernakulam District Committee.

The meeting elected Namitha George as chairperson of the Young Lawyers’ Committee and Adhil P. as convener, it said.
