A watchman at an apartment complex in Miyapur was arrested on Saturday for allegedly breaking into a flat and stealing gold ornaments and cash.

Police said the accused, identified as Prasad, joined the complex as a watchman six months ago. He allegedly gained entry into the flat of a 68-year-old retired bank employee on August 2 and made away with 10 grams of gold, two pairs of gold earrings weighing 5 grams each, and ₹30,000 in cash.

Following a complaint lodged by the victim, Miyapur police registered a case and apprehended Prasad. Investigators recovered the stolen gold ornaments and ₹15,000 of the stolen cash from his possession.

Police said Prasad was aware of the victim’s movements, which helped him plan the theft.
