With heavy rains lashing several parts of Telangana and expected to continue in the coming days, health authorities have been urged to step up preventive measures against seasonal diseases. Vasam Venkateshwar Reddy, Project Director of the Telangana AIDS Control Society and recently appointed Special Officer for the control and supervision of seasonal illnesses in Warangal district, has directed that government hospitals maintain adequate stocks of medicines, ensure the round-the-clock availability of doctors, and conduct fever surveys in schools and welfare hostels.

During an inspection of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) Hospital in Warangal, Mr. Venkateshwar Reddy stressed the need to provide testing facilities for all who require them and to intensify sanitation drives to prevent water stagnation in both urban and rural areas. He also called for regular organisation of seasonal medical camps and rapid diagnostic tests to detect and treat illnesses promptly.

The Special Officer reviewed the measures currently in place to combat seasonal diseases, assessed the services provided by various hospital departments, and examined treatment availability in primary health centres. As part of his visit, he inspected the fever ward, the Integrated Counselling and Testing Centre (ICTC), the blood bank, and the pharmacy at MGM Hospital.
