The Greater Chennai Police on Wednesday said strict action would be taken against those who misuse the provisions of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO)Act by filing false complaints.
The police issued the warning after they found that a woman, in her complaint, had falsely accused her father-in-law of sexually abusing her child. An investigation revealed that her husband had instigated her to lodge the complaint owing to an ongoing quarrel he was having with his father.
Police said that false complaints would be dealt with sternly under Section 22(1) of the POCSO Act.
After obtaining necessary court orders, legal action was being pursued against the complainant, the police added.
