Activists from ‘Praja Sanghala Iyka Vedhika,’ comprising of various trade unions, staged a protest in the city on Wednesday, demanding the immediate withdrawal of the 50% tariffs imposed by the United States on Indian exports. The members also urged the Prime Minister to break his silence on the issue.

Speaking at the protest, CITU district general secretary R.K.S.V. Kumar and AITUC district president M. Manmadha Rao criticised the Modi-led BJP government for failing to oppose the move, even though President Trump imposed higher tariffs on India than on any other country, including neighbouring China and Pakistan.

They warned that the tariff will severely impact the national economy, affecting sectors like textiles, gems, jewellery, seafood, aquaculture, leather, footwear, chemicals, electrical, mechanical machinery and others.
