The moderate to heavy spell of rain that had been lashing parts of Kerala for the last two days will continue for a couple of more days, influenced by the low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal. There will be a reduction in rainfall activity in line with the weakening of the low pressure system. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod on Saturday (August 16, 2025) warning of isolated heavy rains.

After this spell, rain is likely to be subdued in most parts of the State in the next week. However, it may gain momentum by the end of August as another cyclonic circulation or low pressure area poised to form over Gangetic West Bengal-north Odisha coasts and adjoining areas of the northwest Bay of Bengal around August 27 may enhance the strength of westerlies along the Kerala coast. Nonetheless, the overall performance of southwest monsoon in August is likely to below normal with rain deficit increasing in August.
