A 25-year-old man was murdered in a quarrel in the district on Saturday (August 16, 2025).
The deceased has been identified as Joseph, a resident of Melkadu near Deevattipatti, who was a casual labourer. On Friday night (August 15, 2025), he, along with his relative George (40), consumed alcohol near a forest area in Melkadu. At that time, a quarrel erupted between them. The police said that during the quarrel, George allegedly killed Joseph by attacking him with a stone and fled. On Saturday morning, local residents found the body and alerted the police.
The police sent the body to Salem Government Hospital for post-mortem. They registered a case and arrested George on Saturday and are investigating further.
