In Commemoration of National Vascular Day, Chennai Vascular Welfare Society and Vascular Society of India conducted a vascular disease awareness and amputation prevention walkathon at Besant Nagar Beach on Sunday.
The walkathon was flagged off by Justice M. Nirmal Kumar, Madras High court and B. Chandramohan, IAS, Principal Secretary, School Education Department. Dean of Government Omandurar Medical College, G Hariharan; Tamil Nadu representative to NMC, Sivaramakannan, were present.
The importance of screening diabetic patients for peripheral vascular disease, early identification and prevention of amputation was stressed upon at the event. The walkathon was attended by 400 people including vascular surgeons, medical, paramedical and nursing students.
