The Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel attached to the Coimbatore Railway Sub-Division saved a two-year-old boy from choking on a candy while travelling with his mother on a train on Monday.
The incident took place on Mettupalayam – Podanur MEMU. The boy and her family members boarded the train from Karamadai. As the train was heading towards Coimbatore, a candy got stuck in the throat of the boy around 1.40 p.m.
According to the RPF, the boy was found bleeding through his nose and started moving towards an unconscious stage. RPF Inspector Sunil Kumar from Podanur station and Assistant Sub-Inspector Sajini from Coimbatore station rushed to the coach after learning about the incident.
The RPF personnel swiftly acted and provided first aid by thumping on the back of the boy by holding his head lower than his trunk. The first aid continued until the candy that got stuck in his throat was dislodged.
The RPF stated that the boy’s condition was normal as the train reached Coimbatore. He was rushed to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for further check-up. Parents and other passengers appreciated the RPF personnel for the swift and life-saving intervention.
