A 15-year-old boy, who was engaged in sheep rearing as a bonded labourer at Govindapuram near here, was rescued on Tuesday.

Acting on a complaint received on 1098 helpline number, a team led by R. Radhakrishnan, Secretary, District Legal Services Society, made an inspection at Govindapuram, where Ganesan, a farmer of Puduvettakudi near Gunnam in Perambalur district, was rearing sheep and goats. The team found that a boy belonging to Thinnamalai near Thiyagathuruvam in Kallakurichi district was employed by him to take them for grazing.

Inquiries revealed that the boy had worked in Kallakurichi and Perambalur districts as a bonded labourer for about 10 months and he was working at Govindapuram for the last one week. Mr. Radhakrishnan instructed the Revenue Divisional Officer to take suitable action against Ganesan and rehabilitate the boy.
