Anilkumar, 42, the fourth accused in the Periye twin case, sentenced to double life imprisonment, was given a one-month parole on Tuesday (August 19, 2025), despite objections from the families of the victims and the police.
Anilkumar has been barred from entering the Bekal police station limits and must reside under Ambalathara police station limits, where he is required to report to the station and sign daily.
The parole was approved by the Kerala government on the recommendation of the Prison Advisory Committee. The parents of the murdered youths, Kripesh and Sarath Lal, had strongly opposed the release, reiterating that parole should not be granted.
The Bekal police too had recorded their opposition.
The double murder took place on February 17, 2019 in Kaloytte, Periye, when Kripesh and Sarath Lal were hacked to death. Anilkumar, among others, was sentenced to life imprisonment for his role.
Earlier, the eighth accused Subeesh had been released on parole. Anilkumar has been granted parole following Subeesh’s return to prison after completing his parole-term.
