Three labourers were killed on Wednesday when a three-storey building under construction collapsed near Sadbhavna Park in central Delhi’s Daryaganj, officials said.
Rescue teams, including the police, fire brigade, and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), rushed to the spot as heavy machinery was deployed to clear the rubble and search for survivors.
The deceased were identified as Zubair, Gulsagar, and Taufiq, who were working at the site when the structure suddenly gave way. All three were trapped under debris and declared brought dead at Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan (LNJP) Hospital.
According to police, the first call about the collapse came at 12.14 p.m., following which a team of officers, four fire tenders, and rescue officials were dispatched. “The injured were swiftly moved to LNJP Hospital. Civic authorities, including the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), have been informed. Legal action will follow after verification of facts,” said a senior officer.
A Delhi Fire Services (DFS) official said the collapse occurred abruptly while construction work was in progress. “Three persons were rescued from the debris and immediately shifted to the hospital. Rescue operations are still on,” the official added.
Teams from the NDRF joined the operation soon after the incident, assisting police, fire brigade personnel, and DDMA staff. Excavators and other heavy machinery were pressed into service to clear the site.
“The exact cause of the collapse is yet to be ascertained,” an officer said, adding that an investigation has been launched.
