Thousands of party cadres and fans of actor Vijay have been pouring in from various parts of Tamil Nadu to the venue of the second State conference of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) at Parapathi in Madurai district since Wednesday (August 20, 2025) night.

The venue, where seating arrangements have been made for over 1.5 lakh people, began filling up early in the morning as crowds gathered to see and listen to the party’s founder-leader Vijay. Scores of cars bearing the TVK party flag have been roaming the arterial roads of Madurai city since Wednesday.

According to police sources, around 1.30 lakh vehicles had crossed the three major toll gates leading to the venue via the Tiruchi, Thoothukudi, and Tirunelveli highways by forenoon.

The cadres have chosen to travel by all modes of transport — buses, vans, cars, and even two-wheelers. “Most of the two-wheelers have come from nearby areas along the Madurai-Thoothukudi highway,” a police official said.

Arrangements

Massive parking lots have been prepared in anticipation of thousands of vehicles at the venue, which has been set up on 500 acres of land. Though the location of Mr. Vijay’s stay has been kept confidential to avoid crowding by enthusiastic cadres and fans, the actor’s parents — director S.A. Chandrasekar and Shoba — have arrived at the venue.

Even as the entire venue has been dotted with small and large party flags, cadres have turned up wearing red and yellow scarves. Many men and women have chosen to wear outfits resembling the party flag’s colours.

Despite best efforts to provide drinking water at the venue, the scorching sun has caused considerable discomfort to the cadres. They have been demanding additional drinking water to beat the heat and stay hydrated. Several ambulances and medical teams have been kept on standby at the venue.

The conference is likely to begin around 4 p.m., followed by cultural programmes. Mr. Vijay is scheduled to address the cadres while walking along a 300-metre-long ramp constructed at the centre of the venue. Hundreds of bouncers have been deployed on both sides of the ramp to keep the crowd at bay.

After a 100-foot-long flag pole collapsed while being erected at the entrance of the venue on Wednesday afternoon, the organisers have set up a smaller one, on which Mr. Vijay will hoist the party flag to mark the commencement of the meet.
