The Amaravathi Crocodile Farm in Tiruppur Division of Anamalai Tiger Reserve is poised to undergo a makeover with more tourist-friendly attractions.

“We will be shortly readying a revised Detailed Project Report (DPR), improving upon the one sent a year back, for modernising the location with skywalk, acquarium, glass enclosure, park and cafetaria,” District Forest Officer and Deputy Director of Anamalai Tiger Reserve B. Rajesh said.

The crocodile farm located close to the Amaravathy Dam attracts a number of tourists, particularly during weekends and holidays.

Captive breeding of mugger crocodiles is being carried out in the crocodile farm. There are now over 80 crocodiles in the farm.

Over the last few years, the Forest Department had established a Children’s Park, a walking track, and toilets for the convenience of tourists. A unique attraction is the Eco Shop for selling products brought by tribals living in the Anamalai Tiger Reserve.

On Monday, District Forest Officer Aravindkumar visited the crocodile farm, and held discussion with Forest Department officials on establishment of the tourist-friendly amenities.
