Three TMC MPs Satabdi Roy, Mahua Moitra, and Mitali Bag have written to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla complaining about the jostling and âmanhandlingâ they had to endure in the House on Wednesday (August 20, 2025) while three Bills were being introduced.
The TMC also alleged that their MP Abu Taher Khan, who is unwell, was also âmanhandled.â On Wednesday (August 20, 2025) Opposition MPs rose in protest against the introduction of the three draft laws in the Lok Sabha . The opposition MPs raised slogans, marched into the well of the house, and tore copies of the bills. At one point, TMC members tore the bill and threw the bits of paper towards the Home Minister Amit Shah who was moving a motion to refer the Bills to a joint committee of Parliament.
In the melee, TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee was seen trying to tug at the microphone in front of Shah and shout slogans into it. Angry BJP members charged towards the opposition MPs who were in the Well, with Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu rushing to the aisle and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju moving to stand next to the home minister and gesturing to the opposition members to step back.
