The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Bengaluru Branch Office, organised a three-day Annual Regional Hallmarking Meet for the Southern Region from Wednesday. The event commenced with sessions for Assaying and Hallmarking Centres (AHCs) and jewellers in Bengaluru.
Meenakshi Ganesan, Deputy Director-General (Southern Region), emphasised hallmarking’s role in consumer trust and quality assurance.
Chitra Gupta, Deputy Director-General (Hallmarking), highlighted key updates including the Silver HUID scheme, 9-carat gold grade, and a pilot project to capture article weight and images. She called for integration of microbalance and laser machines into the BIS system.
Akshay Kaushak, Joint Director, outlined recent updates to the hallmarking scheme, including the automated renewal system and key changes in Amendment 2 to IS 1417, such as revised definitions of articles and gold coins.
The event was coordinated by Vinodini Kishore, and concluded with a vote of thanks by M. Sushma Rao, Head, BIS Bengaluru Branch Office.
