Senior Congress leader T. Jagga Reddy claimed that the fast-unto-death of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS, then TRS) chief K. Chandrashekar Rao in 2009 was a Congress-designed protest to achieve Telangana at any cost.

In that situation, people would have accepted the fast even if KCR had food and continued it, he said claiming that Congress leaders like K. Jana Reddy had led the struggle and supported KCR’s fast.

Mr. Reddy, who was addressing a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan in Hyderabad on Friday (August 22, 2025), said BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao, unaware of these issues, was criticising the Congress. “KTR lacks the maturity to understand these larger issues despite being a Minister for a decade,” he said.

The Congress leader further attacked KTR for describing Congress as “Dirty party and third-class party”. “KTR was only exposing his ‘irresponsibility’ with such comments. If your grandparents were alive today, they would have scolded you for speaking like this,” he said.

“Telangana was given by Congress, and now the same Congress has become a ‘small party’ for you? After statehood was achieved, didn’t your father KCR go and meet Sonia Gandhi at her residence? Back then, was Congress not respectable? Your family flourished because of Congress, don’t forget that,” he charged.

He reminded KTR that KCR himself acknowledged Sonia Gandhi’s role in granting Telangana. “If Congress is a third-class party, then your father, who learnt politics from Congress, is also third-class. If not for Congress, you would still be living on a salary in the US,” he remarked.

Taking a jibe at Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy, Mr. Jagga Reddy described him as a humble man, but unfortunately was just a script reader. “He cannot make powerful political speeches.”

On the issue of fertilisers, he accused both Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and BRS of enacting “political drama” at the cost of farmers.

“When Chief Minister Revanth Reddy can release thousands of crores to support farmers, why can’t the Union Government provide fertilisers on time?” he asked.

The Congress leader urged farmers to remain cautious of political conspiracies. “BJP and BRS are trying to create unrest under the guise of farmers. Don’t fall into their trap. Political parties may indulge in conspiracies, but farmers should stay alert,” he cautioned.
