Officials cautioned farmers and fishermen not to venture into the river Krishna and its tributaries in Belagavi and Bagalkot districts after water release from Maharashtra’s reservoirs crossed 2.5 lakh cusecs on Friday.

However, rainfall subsided in Belagavi and Bagalkot districts. As many as 12 bridge-cum-barrages in Belagavi district and three in Bagalkot remained submerged. Commuters are using alternative routes.

This is the first time in this month that the release crossed alert levels at 2.4 lakh cusecs. The danger level is around 2.9 lakh cusecs, officials said.

The total discharge at the inter-State border gauge at the Kallol barrage was 2,51,333 cusecs. This is 24,626 cusecs more than that of Thursday.

Increase or decrease in discharge at the Kallol barrage depends upon the rainfall in the catchment area in Maharashtra and discharge from dams, the officials said.

The inflow at the Hipparagi barrage was 2.26 lakh cusecs and outflow 2.25 lakh cusecs. The current storage is zero.

The Lal Bahadur Shastri reservoir on the Krishna recorded an inflow of 2.38 lakh cusecs and an outflow of 2.5 lakh cusecs. In order to reduce chances of flooding in the dam’s backwater areas, officials reduced the gross storage to 96.862 tmcft against the full capacity of 123 tmcft. It was 120 tmcft by the beginning of August.

The Raja Lakhamagouda reservoir on the Ghataprabha in Hidkal has 50 tmcft against the full capacity of 51 tmcft. The inflow was 27,109 cusecs and outflow 27,579 cusecs.

The Renuka Sagar dam on the Malaprabha has 34 tmcft against the full capacity of 37 tmcft. Inflow was 7,592 cusecs and outflow was 6,794 cusecs.
