Scientist C.G. Ramachandran Nair passes away

C.G. Ramachandran Nair, scientist and former chairman of the Science, Technology and Environment Committee (STEC), passed away on Thursday. Prof. Ramachandran Nair, who lived at Thycaud, was 92.

He is a former Professor and Head of the Department of Chemistry, and Dean, Faculty of Science, at the University of Kerala. Prof. Ramachandran Nair served as the Director of the State Institute of Encyclopaedic Publications, before going on to head the STEC, later renamed the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE).

For common man

As chairman of STEC, he played a crucial role in shaping policies and promoting initiatives that have had a lasting impact. His commitment to making scientific knowledge accessible to the common man is highly commendable, the KSCSTE noted in a Facebook post.

He was also a visiting consultant at the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre. Prof. Ramachandran Nair has authored 30 books on science in Malayalam and English and around 250 articles on scientific subjects. The late K. Bharathi Devi is his wife.
