A body, suspected to be that of a woman aged between 55 and 60 years, was found in a waste dumping pit of an unoccupied house near Oonnukal at Kothamangalam on Friday.
The discovery followed a complaint of attempted theft on the property by its owner. The house has remained closed for long.
The police reportedly noticed bloodstains during the search, following which a detailed examination of the house and the property was conducted. A scientific team was deployed to collect forensic evidence. The post-mortem is expected to throw up the cause of the death.
The police are also sifting through missing person reports from Ernakulam and neighbouring districts to verify whether any of them matched the description of the body.
