Two sisters died after being struck by lightning while standing under a tree near their house at Vazhavanthapuram here on Saturday.
The police said the sisters, Syed Asbiya Banu, 13, and Sabikka Banu, 9, of Vazhavanthapuram were playing under a tree near their house. As lightning strike hit the tree, the two were killed on the spot.
As Chathirakudi police were informed about the fatal accident, the mortal remains were taken to the Ramanathapuram Government Medical College Hospital for post-mortem.
The police have registered a case and investigation is under way.
