Construction work for 85 new residential flats under the Elliespuram Housing Scheme began recently at a cost of ₹15.29 crore under the Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board (TNUHDB).
According to a press release, the scheme was first implemented in 1974 when 71 housing units across four blocks with two floors each were built for urban families. The structures had deteriorated due to ageing and were demolished. The new buildings would consist of 85 flats, each measuring 410 square feet, with a multipurpose hall, a bedroom, a kitchen and a toilet. The release mentioned that the site would also include internal roads, drinking water supply, underground sewerage and rainwater harvesting structures.
