Art is an international language understood by all, said renowned cartoonist Sridhar, at a seminar organised by the Forum for Artists in Vijayawada on Sunday, while explaining the importance of art in society.

Attending the event as the chief guest he said: “Artists should continuously work towards honing their skills, without minding what society says about them, noting how artists are looked down upon. He added that artists get their creativity from society, and they should do their bit by making their art useful to society.

Forum for Artists in-charge Sunil Kumar, who presided over the meeting, said that although painting has retained its importance today, it lacks support from the government. He called for greater recognition of artists’ work and their role and urged the government to support them.

The seminar concluded with a resolution that sought for the appointment of teachers in all fine arts institutions and the establishment of more fine arts institutions in the State. Those attending the seminar were of the opinion that the government should announce a cultural policy and open additional art galleries in the capital so artists could showcase their works.

As part of the event, 40 portraits were displayed.
