Karaikal District Collector A.S.P.S. Ravi Prakash carried out surprise inspections by riding a two-wheeler across the town on Monday.
Mr. Ravi Prakash visited Bharathiar Salai, Lemar Street, and Duplex Road, where he interacted with residents to verify whether conservancy workers were collecting garbage from door to door. When residents complained about malfunctioning high-mast lamps, the Collector directed the officials concerned to carry out repairs without delay.
He instructed the private agency that handled conservancy operations to ensure that garbage was cleared daily from all streets and that waste was not dumped in public places.
Following rain the previous night, the Mr. Ravi Prakash directed municipal authorities to remove accumulated waste and to prevent water stagnation at several locations.
Later, he inspected the Old Nehru Market where he interacted with traders and heard their grievances. At the New Nehru Market, he inspected the vegetable and fish markets and the public toilets, instructing municipal staff to ensure daily cleaning and proper disposal of fish and meat waste.
During a visit to Mariamman Koil Street, he noticed some timber shops encroaching upon the road and causing obstruction to public movement. He instructed shop owners to remove the encroachments so as not to inconvenience the public.
Municipal Executive Engineer Muthusivam and municipal staff accompanied the Collector.
