Viduthalai Chiruthaiagal Katchi general secretary and Villupuram MP D. Ravikumar, on Monday welcomed Supreme Court’s stay on Tamil Nadu government’s order on removal of party flag poles and has asked the State government to respond in four weeks.
Mr. Ravikumar said that he welcomed the Supreme Court’s direction in the case filed by CPI (M) State secretary P. Shanmugam.
“I urge the State government to file an affidavit stating that erecting flag poles is a democratic act,” he said.
He further stated, “Removing party flag poles is against democracy and it has to be regularised. In the name of removing flag poles, only those belonging to the VCK and the Left parties are being targeted and removed. The officials of the highways and police departments are acting in a biased manner. In Chidambaram, while removing the poles, they even demolished Dr. Ambedkar’s statue. The Supreme Court verdict has asked them to maintain status quo on the issue.”
