North Odisha faces flood situation due to incessant rain

Flood caused by incessant rains under the influence of low pressure area has marooned over 100 villages in Balasore, Bhadrak and Jajpur districts of Odisha.

While majority of blocks under Balasore district have been inundated, Dhamnagar and Bhandaripokhari blocks of Bhadrak district witnessed swirling water entering homes. Some parts of Jajpur district also witnessed submergence by floodwater.

According to Water Resource department, Subarnarekha and Baitarani were flowing above danger level at three places while water level was narrowing in the danger mark several river gauging sites.

Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force and Fire Service personnel have been deployed for rescue operation.

Meanwhile, a fresh low pressure area formed over Bay of Bengal. India Meteorological Department predicted heavy rain over major parts of Odisha till August 29.

A yellow warning has been issued for several southern districts. Heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 30- 40 kmph was very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Rayagada, Gajapati and Koraput.
