Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has directed the Health, Medical & Family Welfare Department to establish Jan Aushadhi stores in every mandal, ensuring affordable generic medicines are available to the public and easing the financial burden on the poor.

He also emphasised promoting naturopathy and exploring the possibility of extending up to ₹25 lakh in health insurance coverage under the NTR Vaidya Seva scheme to an additional two million families. Currently, 1.43 crore families benefit from the scheme.

Addressing a review meeting at the Secretariat on Monday, the CM called for the establishment of a 100-bed hospital in every Assembly constituency, aiming to increase the State’s total bed strength from the current 2.24 beds per 1,000 population to three, in line with World Health Organization recommendations.

Mr. Naidu suggested the formation of a Yoga Promotion Council to popularise yoga and proposed setting up a Naturopathy University in Amaravati. He also instructed officials to complete the pilot project of free health checkups in Kuppam constituency within 45 days for a statewide rollout, provide Arogya Rathams (mobile medical services), and implement the NTR Baby Kits scheme at the earliest.

Meanwhile, Perkins India and L.V. Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI) have offered to develop a ‘Model Inclusive City’ in Amaravati, focusing on inclusive education, equal rights, and accessible infrastructure in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
