The 80th Foundation Day of the Fishery Survey of India (FSI) was celebrated at the Visakhapatnam base of FSI on Tuesday. The research vessel MFV Matsya Drushti, a tuna long-liner was flagged off for a crucial oceanic survey mission, marking the occasion.
The journey of FSI began on this day in 1946, when the ‘Deep Sea Fishing Station’ was set up as a pilot project to augment India’s food supply, said C. Dhananjaya Rao, head of FSI, Vizag base.
Addressing the officials from FSIs Mumbai, Chennai and Visakhapatnam, Sreenath K.R., Director General, FSI, spoke on the pivotal role of FSI and its fleet in conducting Capacity Building Training programmes, saying that it is vital for the growth of the sector.
