CM’s breakfast scheme extended to 144 aided primary schools in Virudhunagar district

Chief Minister’s breakfast scheme for school children was expanded to 144 Government-aided primary schools in urban areas of Virudhunagar district on Tuesday.

Revenue Minister K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran, and Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu, formally inaugurated the scheme at different places.

Mr. Ramachandran, along with Virudhunagar Collector N.O. Sukhaputra served breakfast to the students at S.B.K. Primary School at Aruppukottai. They also sat along with the students and ate the breakfast.

Mr. Thennarasu served the food to the students at Amala Primary School at Kariyapatti in the presence of District Monitoring Officer, R.V. Shajeevana.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Thennarasu said that serving food to school children was first introduced in Tamil Nadu by P.T. Thiagarayar in Chennai and then the noon meal school was introduced by former Chief Minister Kamaraj which was followed by other Chief Ministers.

The introduction of breakfast scheme by Chief Minister, M.K. Stalin, has helped to increase attendance in schools.

Under the expansion of the breakfast 23,425 students — 3,188 students of 32 aided schools in nine Town Panchayats; 4,982 students of 11 aided schools in Sivakasi Corporation and 15,072 students of 101 aided schools in five municipalities of the district — would be benefitted.

With this, the Chief Minister’s Breakfast Scheme would reach a total of 69,333 students in 1,200 primary schools in Virudhunagar district.

Personal Assistant (Noon Meal) to Collector, Jegadeesan, Project Director, DRDA, V. Kesavadasan, Project Director, Tamil Nadu State Rural Livelihood Mission, George Antony, were among those who were present.
