Chennai Corporation Council on Tuesday passed a resolution to construct a cycle track along the Marina beach as part of the heritage trail to showcase the architectural heritage along the beach.

The corridor will get a dedicated synthetic cycle track 4 metre wide along 2.3 km from Labour Statue to the Light House. Nine bus stops will be redeveloped along Kamarajar Salai as part of the project. Galleries will be developed to view heritage buildings along the corridor. Bollard lighting for the cycle track will also be installed as part of the project. Chennai Corporation council permitted Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority to implement the project in the land parcels of GCC, including the garden and children’s play area. However, a portion of the land is being utilised for the metrorail project. A part of the garden along the Marina beach will be utilised for the corridor. The council also approved work on the topo sketch for the project.
