The Delhi government will build a library in an effort to conserve and promote the Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan Memorial in Qila Rai Pithora, Delhi Art, Culture and Language Minister Kapil Mishra said on Thursday.

During a visit to the memorial in Mehrauli with local MLA Gajender Singh Yadav, Mr. Mishra noted that while a cultural complex was set up there in 2002, it has since been left underutilised. “Although the building exists, there are no other activities taking place here. There is a need for maintenance. We believe this is a very important place in the history of India and Delhi and we will certainly take it forward in this direction,” he said.

The Archaeological Survey of India has prepared a proposal for the site’s upkeep and work on the proposed library will begin soon, Mr. Mishra said. The library and the cultural hub around it will highlight stories of India’s brave heroes, he added.

Mr. Mishra also visited the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Memorial Museum in Mehrauli. Calling it “a matter of pride for Delhi”, he also promised government support for its promotion, adding that a national-level inauguration ceremony was being planned.
