As many as 1291 roads were badly damaged incurring a loss of ₹374 crore during the unprecedented heavy rains that lashed Kamareddy, Medak, Rajanna Sircilla, Nirmal, Nizamabad and old Warangal districts from August 26 to 28.
Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Minister Danasari Anusuya alias Seethakka, who is the incharge Minister of Kamareddy, held a teleconference with PR officials to assess the damages caused due to the heavy rains in the last three days.
The PR Engineer-in-Chief N. Ashok told the Minister that 1291 roads and culverts were damaged in the rains. He said a sum of ₹22.71 crore was needed to take up temporary repairs and another ₹352 crore for permanent repairs of these rural roads.
Vehicular traffic to 22 villages in the affected districts were cut off and the PR staff managed to lay temporary roads to 14 villages. Work is on to restore road connectivity to the remaining villages.
Ms. Seethakka urged the officials to take all possible steps to restore the roads for the people. She requested the officials to focus on the villages that had been hit due to damages to the road and being cut off from the outside world.
The PR Minister has stayed put in Kamareddy district headquarters since August 27 monitoring the flood situation in the rural areas. She extensively toured the affected villages meeting people and ensuring many of the residents were shifted to temporary shelters and safer places.
