Traffic diversions in Besant Nagar over Annai Velankanni festival

On the occasion of the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Annai Velankanni Church in Besant Nagar, a grand flag hoisting ceremony is scheduled to be held on Friday (August 29, 2025). The celebrations will continue till September 8. In view of this, the Greater Chennai City Traffic Police has issued an advisory regarding possible traffic diversions on August 29, 31, and September 1, 7, and 8.

Vehicles coming from Thiru.Vi.Ka Bridge and S.V. Patel Road intending to go to Besant Avenue toward the Besant Nagar Bus Terminus will be restricted at Aavin Park (ML Park) and will be allowed to proceed via L.B. Road to reach their destination.

Vehicles will not be allowed to ply towards Annai Velankanni Church from the junction of 7th Avenue and M.G. Road. MTC buses from M.L. Park heading to the Besant Nagar Bus Terminus via Besant Avenue will be diverted through L.B. Road, Shastri Nagar 1st Avenue, Shastri Nagar 1st Main Road, M.G. Road, and Besant Nagar 1st Main Road to reach the bus terminus. 

MTC buses from Besant Nagar Bus Terminus toward Thiruvanmiyur and Adyar Signal will be diverted through Besant Nagar 1st avenue, Shasthri Nagar 1st Avenue, Shasthri Nagar 1st Main Road, and then M.G. Road to reach L.B. Road and proceed toward their destination.
